We teach cello from six years old to adult in Woodlands. Private cello is from S$50 per 30 minutes, S$70 for 45 minutes and S$80 per hour. Cello is taught by Cheong Xin Ying. Instruments can be borrowed during lessons.
Adult beginners are the norm on cello, not the exception: posture, bow hold and tone from the very first lesson, with a studio cello to borrow during lessons for as long as you need.
All in-person cello lessons take place at Blk 305 Woodlands Street 31, #01-71, about 5 to 7 minutes on foot from Marsiling MRT. Complete beginners can start without buying an instrument first.

It starts with the sound.
Cello attracts people for the sound. It is lower and warmer than the violin, and it is what drew Xin Ying to the instrument at ten years old.
Six is the earliest we start, a little later than violin, because the instrument needs more physical reach. There is no upper limit, and adult beginners are common on cello.
How cello is taught here
Xin Ying is precise about technique and honest with students about what is not yet working, which is what most people actually want from a teacher even when it is uncomfortable.
Theory is covered inside lessons, and she holds ABRSM Grade 8 in both Piano and Theory. She has taught in schools and served as cello instructor for the Fuchun Primary String Ensemble.

Can an adult learn cello as a complete beginner?
Yes. No previous musical experience is needed. We begin with posture, bow hold and tone, and you can use a studio cello during lessons. Choose private tuition for individual pacing, or ask about the adult beginner group programme.
Can I try cello before buying an instrument?

Can I prepare for ABRSM cello exams here?

Is cello harder than violin?
Different rather than harder. Intonation challenges are similar, bowing mechanics differ, and the seated posture is easier for many adults than the violin's neck position.
